US tech giant Apple plans to increase its investment in China and build a research and development center, the company’s first such facility in the Asia-Pacific, CEO Tim Cook said on Tuesday.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — Tim Cook made the statement during talks with China's Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, China's state news agency Xinhua reported.

The CEO added that his company would take an active part in China’s Internet Plus strategy that refers to the application of information technologies and the Internet in conventional industries.

This comes amid decline in gadgets sales and tighter cybersecurity laws in China, which used to be one of the US tech giant’s fastest-growing regions.
