US Navy Receives Seventh Littoral Combat Ship Detroit

The US Navy has received its seventh Littoral Combat Ship, the Detroit, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the city of Detroit, Michigan on October 22, the defense contractor Lockheed Martin said in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Lockheed Martin is currently working on six Freedom-class littoral combat ships for the US Navy, according to the release.

"Once commissioned, the USS [United States Ship] Detroit will represent the interests of the United States where and when needed, with a level of force that will deter and defeat threats," Lockheed Martin Littoral Ships and Systems Vice President Joe North said in the release.

In addition, three ships remain in long-lead material procurement.
