The Russian leader and the country's Security Council discussed additional steps to shield Crimea from terrorism amid foiled Kiev-plotted attacks.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and the country's Security Council have discussed additional security measures for Crimea amid the recently prevented terrorist attack, the Kremlin press service said Thursday.

"The head of state held a meeting with the members of the Security Council, where additional measures to ensure the security of residents and vital facilities in Crimea were discussed in connection with the terrorist attack prevented by Russian special services," the press service said.

The sides assessed scenarios to strengthen the security of both the land and maritime borders and the airspace of the peninsula.

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday it had dismantled a spy ring organized by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry in Crimea, detaining both Russian and Ukrainian nationals involved in preparing terrorist attacks on the peninsula. Two Russian officers were killed.

"During the meeting, a detailed discussion took place on the agreements reached at the Russian president's international meetings with the leaders of Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey and Armenia," the press service added.
