The United Nations is investigating the reports claiming that chemical weapons were recently used in Syria’s Aleppo and considers them credible, they would amount to a war crime if proven, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said Thursday.

Islamist Terrorists Use Chlorine in Attack on Syria's Aleppo
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Wednesday, media reports emerged claiming that chlorine gas was dropped alongside bombs on Syria’s Aleppo.

"It is not for me to assess who did it and whether it actually took place although there is a lot of evidence that it actually did take place… but if it did take place it is a war crime," de Mistura told a media stakeout, adding that an investigation was underway.

On January 4, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announced that all chemical weapons in Syria had been destroyed, however, in April reports emerged that radical militants could be using and producing chemical weapons in Syria.
