MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al Sham terrorist groups shelled inhabited areas in the Syrian provinces of Aleppo and Damascus, a daily bulletin on the Russian Defense Ministry website said.

"Within last 24 hours, in the Aleppo province terrorists have shelled hai al-Ansar, Hai al-Antar, Leramon quarters, gas and cement plants, the "Kastello" trade center and al-Nayrab airport in the Aleppo city with improvised MLRS and mortars. Terrorists have also shelled Haush al-Farah, Kabun, Jaubar, Arbil, Abd Beinuri, Huteita al-Jarash, and Khan al-Shikh inhabited areas in the Damascus province," the bulletin said on Tuesday

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into force in Syria. Terrorist groups such as Islamic State (ISIL, also known as Daesh), as well as Jabhat Fatah al Sham (previously known as al-Nusra Front), both outlawed in Russia and a range of other states, are not part of the deal.
