Terrorists in Syria's Aleppo Surrounded by Government Forces, Siege Not Broken
14:02 GMT 07.08.2016 (Updated: 14:28 GMT 07.08.2016) Terrorists remain surrounded in eastern and south-eastern parts of the city of Aleppo despite recent reports about alleged breaking the siege, according to a RIA Novosti correspondent.
ALEPPO (Sputnik) – Terrorists are still surrounded by the Syrian army in the northern city of Aleppo with the fighting continuing in the south-western part of the city, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
Terrorists remain surrounded in eastern and south-eastern parts of the city despite Saturday reports about alleged breaking the siege. All supply lines are also controlled by the Syrian army.
The fighting continues at the territory of an artillery school and near the Ramouse neighborhood of Aleppo.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into force in Syria. Terrorist groups such as Islamic State (ISIL, also known as Daesh), as well as Jabhat Fatah al Sham (also known as Jabhat al-Nusra, or Nusra Front) are not part of the deal. Both groups are outlawed in Russia and a range of other countries.
