With Hillary Clinton officially nominated as the Democratic Party’s nominee on Tuesday, Republican hopeful Donald Trump needed to regain the spotlight. During a bizarre press conference on Wednesday, he seems to have done just that.

It’s impossible to know, at this point, whether Trump wittingly or accidentally thrust himself back into the media spotlight in the midst of the Democratic National Convention, but on Wednesday, a series of strange comments made it impossible to ignore the real-estate speculator.

US Democrats Officially Nominate Hillary Clinton for President

First, the Republican nominee seemed to have little idea who, exactly, Hillary Clinton had chosen to be her running mate.

"Her running mate Tim Kaine, who by the way did a terrible job in New Jersey – first act he did in New Jersey was ask for a $4 billion tax increase and he was not very popular in New Jersey and he still isn’t," Trump said.

Reporters suggest Trump was confusing Tim Kaine, who is the former governor of Virginia, with Thomas Kean, the former governor of New Jersey, who is a Republican.

The error is especially surprising given that current New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is essentially Trump’s manservant.

The billionaire also took the opportunity to address the Freddie Gray case, in which Baltimore prosecutor Marilyn Mosby charged six officers involved in the arrest of Gray with murder, after Gray died in the back of a police van. Trump offered a strange legal opinion.

"I think it was disgraceful what she did and the way she did it, and the news conference that she had where they were guilty before anybody knew the facts," he said. "She should prosecute herself. She should be held accountable….I think she is a disgrace to the world of prosecutors for what she did."

Segueing into Bill Clinton’s speech at the DNC convention on Tuesday, Trump, on his third marriage, made insinuations about the former president’s extramarital affair, in an apparent attempt to smear Hillary Clinton.

"And even the story told by her husband last night, he left out the most interesting chapter," he said. "I won’t get into that. The chapter that I really waited for – because it was pretty boring – the chapter that I waited for, I never heard."

In case the sexism implied in the former comment wasn’t clear enough, Trump went on to tell a female reporter to "be quiet."

Needless to say, no one is talking about Hillary Clinton right now.
