BERLIN (Sputnik) — The Syrian man who detonated a bomb outside a music festival in southern Germany was to be deported to Bulgaria after he was denied asylum, an German Interior Ministry spokesman said Monday.
"I cannot say at the moment why this deportation did not take place," Tobias Plate told reporters. "Syrians cannot be deported directly to Syria because of the situation in the country."
The man died in the explosion in the Bavarian city of Ansbach, which also injured 12 bystanders. He entered Germany in 2014 and had his asylum request rejected in 2015.
