The event seemed to go off without a hitch as the crowd mingled, danced, and discussed their hopes for the Democratic Party.
That is until the very end.
The party was scheduled to end at 10 p.m., but as the evening came to a close unhappy Sanders supporting delegates gathered in the center of the main tent and began chanting "Bernie! Bernie!" Many guests, who seemed to overwhelmingly favor the democratic socialist over the presumed nominee, ran to join in.
The chants ranged from demanding a stop to the Trans Pacific Partnership, which only Republican nominee Donald Trump and Sanders oppose, to ditching Debbie Wasserman Schwartz, the former Democratic National Committee chair, who had to resign earlier in the day over the Wikileaks email scandal that proved the party had been favoring Clinton while claiming neutrality.
Perhaps most notably however, was a chant demanding a floor vote when the convention begins on Monday at the Wells Fargo Center, a sign that the party remains massively divided.
Between the latest email scandal and the defeat of a proposal to end the role of superdelegates over the weekend, Sanders supporters remain firmly behind their candidate and refuse to concede, even if the Senator himself already has.
Throughout the weekend, thousands marched and protested on the streets of Philadelphia a significantly larger and more organized number than was seen in the streets of Cleveland to protest last week's Republican National Convention. Determined Sanders' supporters toughed out 90 degree plus heat to voice their outrage, even holding a mock funeral for the party that they feel has betrayed them.
Protests are expected to continue throughout the week and even on the convention floor itself.
