"Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today sued the US Department of Defense for failing to produce records related to plans and preparations for transferring detainees from Guantanamo Bay to Fort Leavenworth," the release stated.
The release noted Schmidt filed a request for the documents in December under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Defense Department promised to have them sent by April.
The Defense Department now promises to provide the records by November 15, saying further consultation is required, the release added.
"Our concerns are heightened because the [Barack Obama] administration admits is has the records we requested and initially promised to produce them but now are inexplicably dragging their feet until after the November election," Schmidt said in the release.
The lawsuit seeks a court order requiring the Obama administration to immediately produce the documents.
