A third-generation reactor at the most powerful nuclear power unit in Russia's atomic energy network is expected to begin generating electricity by August, Aleksandr Shutikov, the deputy general director of the Rosenergoatom operating company, said.
ZARECHNY (Sputnik) — This unit is the first nuclear power unit with improved technical and economic indicators that meets modern requirements of reliability and safety and was constructed using the so called post-Fukushima security technologies.
"The unit is on the stage of energetic launch. The power of 30 percent has been mastered. The unit is currently being prepared for synchronization of a turbogenerator with the power system. It is expected to be implemented this month," Shutikov told RIA Novosti.
The Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Russia’s nuclear power plant operating company Rosenergoatom. The plant is located on the bank of the Don River 26 miles to the south of the city of Voronezh.
It is Russia's first nuclear power plant with water-to-water power reactors (VVER) of case type with regular water under pressure. The first power unit was launched in 1964.
