An alleged Turkish soldier who opened fire near the Palace of Justice in Ankara has been killed, Turkish television reported Monday from the site where a purported mastermind of last week’s coup attempt is expected to be delivered.

ANKARA (Sputnik) – Initial reports claimed the shooter was a serviceman who, after opening fire from a passing vehicle, had been detained. No casualties have been reported as a result of the incident.

The broadcaster reported General Akin Ozturk, former commander of Turkey’s air force and military attache to Israel who is claimed to be behind the failed insurrection, is expected at the Palace of Justice shortly.

Late on Friday, the Turkish authorities said that an attempted military coup was taking place in the country. It was suppressed several hours later.

The coup attempt was suppressed by early Saturday, with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim stating that all coup supporters were identified and would be apprehended as the country was returning to normal life. Over 290 people have been killed and at least 1,400 injured during the attempted coup, according to the country's foreign ministry.
