Anti-terrorism measures taken in France over the 18 months after deadly attack on the Charlie Hebdo office were insufficient, the country's former President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Sunday, as quoted by local media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In January 2015, two gunmen attacked the office of the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine in Paris, killing 12 people and wounding 11 more, after the media outlet published satirical cartoons of Prophet Muhammad.

"The truth is that nothing of what had to be done over the past 18 months… was done indeed," Sarkozy was cited by TF1 broadcaster as saying.

On July 14, France was rocked again by a deadly attack, as a truck rammed into a large crowd that was celebrating Bastille Day in Nice. At least 84 people, including children, were killed and over 300 people were injured.

Two days after media reported that IS, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia, claimed responsibility for the attack.
