The failed military coup attempt shows that the Turkish people are ready to fight for their democracy, Zeynap Jane Kandur, Member of the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) Istanbul Administration, told Sputnik.

ULAANBAATAR (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko — Kandur has also stressed that a "few terrorists cannot take the democracy away from people."

"The Turkish people have managed to protect their democracy that was attempted to be taken away from them. They have fought, they have taken to streets," Kandur said adding that "It’s wonderful that you can see the nation now standing up for democracy. They made it clear it is not going to be beaten down, and a few terrorists cannot take the democracy away from people."

AKP is holding the majority of seats in the Turkish parliament.
