According to Xinhua news agency, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang urged Vietnam to value the development of bilateral relations achieved with great effort, and jointly with China to ensure peace and stability in the South China Sea.
The meeting between the prime ministers was held in Mongolian Ulan Bator on the sidelines the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit, that was held following the recent Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration's decision, stating that China has no legal basis to claim historic rights to south China Sea resources.
The Spratly Islands are contested by China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia. Aside from Taiping, the disputed islands include the Paracel Islands and the Scarborough Shoal (Huangyan Island).
