Turkey Forbids German Lawmakers From Visiting Base After Genocide Vote
BERLIN (Sputnik) — In June, delegates from the lower house of the German parliament, Bundestag, were barred from visiting German soldiers stationed at the Incirlik airbase after they passed a resolution labelling the 1915 killings of Armenians by the then Ottoman Empire as genocide.

"Members of the German Bundestag must be allowed to visit our soldiers serving outside Germany. We’ve held the first round of talks [with Ankara] and more will follow, we’ll take it from there," Merkel told reporters at a press briefing in Berlin.

Bundestag speaker Norbert Lammert suggested in an interview with a national newspaper on Monday that Germany could withdraw troops from Turkey.

Germany has Tornado military jets stationed in Turkey. It has been flying them on surveillance missions in Syria as part of Berlin’s commitment to the US-led operation against Daesh militants.
