The lack of an indictment resulted in just 10% of survey participants more likely to support her, while 28% said the outcome makes them less likely to support her. Most agreed that, regardless of whether the FBI should have charged her, the email scandal will not affect their decision at the polls in November.
While people’s views on the agency’s judgement are sharply divided along party lines, the Post reported that, on an emotional level, Democrats are not supportive of Clinton to the level that Republicans are strongly opposed to her. The Post also found that Independents, the largest voting block in the United States, side more heavily with Republicans regarding Clinton’s alleged culpability in the email scandal. Approximately 90% of Republicans disagreed with the lack of charges, while six out of 10 Independents shared their concern. Only 30% of Democrats disagreed with the FBI.
“Most independents, 58 percent, say the issue won't influence their choice, but those who say it has made them less likely to support Clinton far outnumber those who say it has made them more apt to vote for her, 33 percent versus 5 percent,” the Post noted of the survey.
Throughout the duration of her campaign, a majority of Americans, in multiple polls, have indicated that they find the former Secretary of State untrustworthy — in many polls even more so than presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
