A total of 320 Russian athletes have qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the minister, so far this number excludes the track team.

"Total of 320 people excluding the track team have qualified for the Olympic Games. On July 21, we will lodge an application [with the International Olympic Committee]," Mutko told sportsmen at the meeting.

The minister also announced that the results of the investigation by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) into alleged doping use at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia's Sochi may be announced on July 15-18.

"The investigation is underway, the results could be announced on July 15-18," Mutko told reporters.

The minister added he had sent another letter to WADA to reaffirm Russia's readiness for a more independent control of the situation with doping.

Former head of Moscow’s anti-doping lab Grigory Rodchenkov was quoted by US media as saying in May that dozens of Russian athletes at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi had used doping throughout the games as part of an alleged "state-run program," prompting a WADA inquiry.

The Russian Sports Ministry refuted the claims, stressing that no doping program had ever existed in Russian sports.
