The highest-ranking police officer involved in the arrest and death of 25-year-old African-American Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Maryland has elected to have a bench trial instead of a jury trial, local media reported on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Lieutenant Brian Rice took the same option as his two colleagues who were acquitted of all charges in Gray’s case, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Officer Rice has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, two counts of misconduct in office and reckless endangerment.
