The longest multiday ultramarathon cycling race, the Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme, kicked off in Moscow in the early hours of July 5.

The race, held in both solo and duo categories, was officially launched at the Teatralnaya Square in Moscow, at 5:30 a.m. on July 5, 2016.

The participants will have to spend approximately three weeks in the saddle, navigating 5 climatic and 7 time zones along the legendary Trans-Siberian Railway.

The 9,287 kilometer race itself is split into 14 stages, ranging from 319 to 1,372 kilometers. This layout makes the event even more spectacular for those who intend to follow it via the race’s official website.

Despite the fact that this event mostly attracts professional ultramarathon athletes, a number of amateur cyclists have also applied to take part in this ultimate contest of speed and endurance.
