The Intelligence Agency warned the Home Ministry that separatist elements are increasing their sphere of influence after the series of terror attacks on security forces in the Kashmir valley in recent months.
According to Home Ministry sources, there has been a 47 percent increase in the militancy related incidents in the Kashmir valley. Similarly, illegal crossings over the Pakistani border also registered an increase of around 65 percent in 2016.
“Since the beginning of 2016 security forces have so far killed 64 terrorists but at least 179 terrorists are still active in Jammu and Kashmir. Increases in the cases of infiltration are really a cause of concern,” sources told Sputnik.
The Indian government is also concerned about the rise in on-line radicalization through social media in Jammu and Kashmir, which is one of the main reasons for the frequent unrest in the Kashmir valley.
In view of the changing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh last week visited Srinagar and chaired a high level meeting and reviewed the security situation of the state. The Home Minister asked security and intelligence officials to be more vigilant and step up counter-insurgency and counter-infiltration operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
