MOSCOW (Sputnik) — France may stop applying the EU directive which allows pay differentials between posted and local workers, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Sunday.
According to Valls, this regulation needs to be modified to fight so-called social dumping. This is the situation, when foreign workers are underpaid, as employers in the host country pay them just the minimum rate.
"The French government is trying to convince everyone, and many countries agree that the changes are necessary… to fight social dumping. If we are not to be heard… France will not apply the directive," he told TF1 broadcaster.
The EU directive on posted workers was adopted in 1996. Recently, it came under fire for reducing the rights of posted workers.
