US Military Accepts Expeditionary Fast Transport Ship Carson City - Navy
The US military received the Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) surface vessel Carson City, named after a city in the US state of Nevada, the US Navy said in a press release on Friday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — EPFs are transport ships used for high-speed mobility and transportation of troops and equipment, and can handle combat-loaded Abrams main battle tanks, according to the release.
They ships are capable of operating in shallow water and are designed with a flight deck for helicopter operations.
"[The ship is] highly capable asset to our fleet," US Navy Capt. Henry Stevens said in the release.
He noted that the Carson City is the seventh ship in the EFP class that US Navy accepted and was produced ahead of schedule.
On Thursday, the Navy also accepted its eighth Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Montgomery that will be commissioned in September.
