Georgia and the European Union signed an agreement on exchange and protection of classified information, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The document was signed by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze.

"On June 23, 2016, Georgia and the European Union singed an agreement on necessary security procedures for exchange and protection of classified information," the statement read.

The agreement will reportedly bring Georgia closer to the EU informational security standards, furthermore, it would increase the efficiency of  the country's participation in the EU peacekeeping missions.
