The Middle East peace would help uproot regional terrorism, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday.

MOSCOW  (Sputnik) — On June 3, the French capital hosted the conference aimed at the resumption of the stalled Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. The conference's participants assessed the situation that involved possible risks for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"This peace will indeed will take part in uprooting terrorism, and this armed extremist groups, which in the name of Palestine claim things that have nothing to do with our course," Abbas said at joint press conference with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

He reaffirmed his commitment to "fully transparent" institutions in Palestine, and to work on improving the rights of women and the performance of civil society organizations.

Abbas thanked the European Union member states and France, in particular, as well all the other members of the Paris meeting, for contributing to the peace process.

Relations between Israel and Palestine have been wrecked for decades, as Palestinians have been seeking diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip.
