It's been a far from purr-fect campaign for the Vote Leave group in the UK and even our feline friends are fed up.

As the countdown to EU referendum draws to a close in the UK, the In and Out campaign groups have certainly got their claws out.

Boris Johnson and Michael Gove from Vote Leave have hit out at UKIP leader Nigel Farage for his "narrow minded, insular, bigoted, and xenophobic" rhetoric.

While Gove has accused Prime Minister David Cameron, firmly in the Remain camp, of knowing it was "impossible" for the government to reduce net migration to fewer than 100,000 while the UK remained in the European Union.

Meanwhile #CatsAgainstBrexit is trending on Twitter in the absence of anything new from the politicians.

And not just a pretty face, former England football captain David Beckham, has revealed his support for the Remain campaign.

"We live in a vibrant and connected world where together as a people we are strong."

"For our children and their children we should be facing the problems of the world together and not alone" Beckham said.

And after months of mug shots of politicians plaguing social media the #CatsAgainstBrexit and #DavidBeckham tweets offer a welcome relief as the countdown to the UK's referendum is almost over.

However, the support for the Remain campaign from one of the world's most famous footballers has also been met with some pretty catty remarks.
