Powerful Earthquake Strikes Indonesian Island of Lombok
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake has occurred off the coast of the Pacific island of Tanna in the Republic of Vanuatu, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said Monday.

Tremors were recorded at around 03:51 GMT 95 kilometers away from the town of Isangel on Tanna island, according to USGS data.

No information about the damage or casualties was immediately available, and no tsunami warning has been issued.

The Vanuatu islands lie on the so-called Ring of Fire, a horseshoe-shaped string of volcanoes around the Pacific Rim, where about 90 percent of the world's quakes occur.
