The two leaders are set to discuss the further development of Russian-Chinese relations and cooperation within trade, economy, investments, science and the humanitarian field.
Key international issues will also be on the two leaders' agenda, as well as "cooperation in the framework of multilateral and regional organizations, first and foremost the UN, BRICS, G20," the press service said. Putin and Xi will also discuss the implementation of deals recently agreed within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
During Putin’s visit, the sides are also set to sign a deal on the supply of Russian wheat to China, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told reporters.
"Considering the agricultural project, we are talking about the construction of a grain terminal in the [Russian] Trans-Baikal region… In this regard, not just the beginning of the project has been agreed, but in fact we plan to prepare, before the visit of our leader to China, a memorandum … and following the memorandum to sign a contract for this kind of serious, large supplies of wheat to China," Rogozin said.
The official noted that this project would be significant for the Siberian region, incorporating not only with the supply of raw materials in the form of grain, but also its deep processing and the creation of an extensive rail infrastructure as well as infrastructure processing the grain products.
In December, Russia and China signed protocols on phytosanitary regulations for imports of Russian agricultural products, such as wheat, corn, rice, soybeans and rapeseed, to China. Following the signing, China allowed imports of wheat grown in four specific regions of Russia.
