Egypt Court Sentences to Death 6 Co-Defendants of Ex-President Morsi
CAIRO (Sputnik) — A Cairo criminal court sentenced ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi on Saturday to life in jail on charges of spying for Qatar.

The court heard the cases of 11 suspects. Six suspects, among them three journalists, were sentenced to death through hanging. Three others were tried in absentia.

The trial, which was broadcast by Egyptian television, was delayed while the Islamist-backed ex-president was airlifted to court by helicopter.

Morsi and fellow members of his Muslim Brotherhood party were accused of passing army and state security secrets to Qatar in order to weaken the Egyptian state. The former president said he did not recognize the jurisdiction of the new authorities.
