US-led Coalition Launches 10 Strikes in Syria's Manbij

The US-led coalition conducted 10 airstrikes against Daesh on Thursday in the city of Manbij.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Daesh carried out 10 airstrikes on Thursday near the Syrian city of Manbij destroying terrorists tactical units and fighting positions, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.

“Near Manbij, 10 strikes struck nine separate Daesh tactical units and destroyed six ISIL fighting positions, three Daesh vehicles, and an Daesh mortar system," CENTCOM stated on Friday.

In the beginning of June, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), backed by the United States, have begun an offensive on Manbij to free the city from terrorists.

The allied forces also launched two airstrikes near Mara hitting Daesh tactical units and fighting positions, the release said.

Meanwhile in Iraq, 10 coalition airstrikes near seven cities, including Fallujah and Mosul, destroyed Daesh command and control nodes, assembly areas and fighting positions, among other targets, the Central Command noted.

The US-led coalition of over 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes in Syria and Iraq against the Islamic State, also known as Daesh, since summer 2014. Over the past year, the coalition has reclaimed a number of cities around Mosul in a bid to choke off outside support to Daesh, outlawed in the United States and Russia.
