European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday said that he likes being at the 2016 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia despite some people disliking the idea of his participation in the forum.

ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — SPIEF started at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre in St. Petersburg earlier on Thursday. The forum is taking place on June 16-18.

"First, I would like to say a few words about why I am here today. We have those who like the idea that I am here and we have those who don't like the idea. But I like the idea to be here," Juncker said at the opening ceremony of the forum.
