Obama Urges Better Gun Control, Assault Weapons Ban After Orlando Shooting

Numerous gun control measures need to be enacted in the United States to prevent attacks similar to those that occurred in Orlando and San Bernadino, US President Barack Obama said on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Moreover, Obama reiterated his call for a ban on the purchase of weapons for anyone on a terrorist watch list.

"Reinstate the assault weapons ban, make it harder for terrorists to use these weapons to kill us," Obama urged.

On Sunday, a shooter identified as US national Omar Mateen opened fire in the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando killing 49 people and injuring at least 53 others.

In December, US-born Rizwan Farook and his Pakistani wife Tashfeen Malik attacked the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, killing 14 people and injuring more than two dozen others.
