Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday expressed condolences to his US counterpart John Kerry over the deadly shooting in the southeastern US city of Orlando, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The mass shooting occurred on Sunday at Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando. Local authorities confirmed information about 50 killed people, including a shooter, and 53 injured in the attack.

"Sergei Lavrov expressed sincere condolences to the state secretary in the context of a bloody massacre in the US city of Orlando, which claimed lives of dozens of people," the statement said.

The attack conducted by US national Omar Mateen became the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States, surpassing the death toll from the 2007 incident at Virginia Tech, which claimed 32 lives.
