Tehran has prepared a lawsuit against the US over its refusal to return $2 billion in frozen Iranian assets, Fars news agency reported.

“We have taken all necessary steps to prevent the theft of Iranian assets, and the Iranian government will shortly file a pertinent lawsuit against the US with the UN Court in Geneva,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told lawmakers in Tehran.

Mr. Zarif stressed that Iran did not recognize US court rulings concerning the Islamic Republic.

Iran Vows to Reclaim $2Bln Worth of Frozen Assets in US Through Hague Court
Earlier, the Iranian parliament obliged the government to demand damages for the US Supreme Court's decision to use the $2 billion in frozen Iranian money as compensation to the families of Americans whose relatives died in the 1983 truck bombing of a US Marine base in Beirut and other terrorist attacks.

In 1984, the United States designated Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism, accusing Tehran of funding and arming terrorist groups.
