The major campaign endorsements Hillary Clinton secured over the past week show the Democratic Party is beginning to unite ahead of the 2016 presidential election, chairman of the House of Representatives Democratic Caucus, Congressman Xavier Becerra told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Clinton’s Democratic rival, Senator Bernie Sanders, has not yet conceded defeat and will continue campaigning for the Democratic nomination through the final primary vote in Washington, DC on June 14.

Questions have been raised about whether Clinton will be able to unite the party and earn the support of Sanders’ dedicated base of millions of voters.

"I think it is that forward movement we expected to see and are happy to see," Becerra said of latest endorsements for Clinton after she won enough delegates on Tuesday to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination.

On Thursday, President Barack Obama announced his official support for his former secretary of state, saying he will join her on the campaign trail beginning next week. Progressive Democratic Senator, Elizabeth Warren, who withheld an endorsement for either Democratic candidate, also announced her support for Clinton on Thursday.

"We are trying to bring all the different, important players together behind Secretary Clinton," Becerra said. "And getting the president on board, seeing Senator Warren’s support… it is positive, it shows that we understand what is at stake and the prize if November the eighth."
