A unique summer camp is opening in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) in Ukraine’s southeast, LPR Minister of Information, Press and Mass Communications Vyacheslav Stolyarenko told RIA Novosti.

LUHANSK, June 10 (Sputnik) – Kiev launched a special military operation in Ukraine’s southeast in April 2014, after local residents refused to recognize the new Ukrainian authorities, which came to power as a result of a coup.

After independence referendums held in May 2014, the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics (DPR and LPR) were established.

"The camp is special because it will have a unique educational program from four ministries – the ministry of information, the ministry of security, interior ministry and health ministry," Stolyarenko explained.

According to the minister, the camp will welcome about 750 children in the course of this year’s summer season.

"Such a project is being implemented in LPR for the first time, moreover, it is unique because such projects have never been implemented either in Ukraine, or in Russia," Stolyarenko said.

In February 2015, a peace agreement was signed between Ukraine’s conflicting sides in the Belarusian capital, Minsk. The deal stipulates a full ceasefire, a weapons withdrawal from the line of contact in eastern Ukraine, an all-for-all prisoner exchange and constitutional reforms, which would give a special status to the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics in the southeast.
