Muscle-Flexing: NATO Seeks to Intimidate Moscow With 'Anaconda'
NATO doesn't have comprehensive data on the traffic routes it can use for heavy military equipment, the newspaper reported.

"There is a lack of information on usable railways, bridges and tunnels, especially in the new NATO member countries," the article said, referring to the representative of the alliance.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that many railways have been privatized, the newspaper noted. Moreover, there are problems with the transit of troops across countries that are not members in NATO. Obtaining the necessary permits for the transit may take about a month, as for example, in the case of the Czech Republic.

"In internal discussions US generals call for a kind of a ‘military Schengen area,' but in public the Americans avoid complaints," the newspaper noted.

The military maneuver started in Poland on Tuesday and involves 31,000 troops from 24 countries as well as about 3,000 items of military equipment. According to ZDF, with this maneuver, NATO seeks to demonstrate that it has taken Eastern European countries under its protection and send a signal of deterrence to Russia.
