Russia, China Working on Plan on Nuclear Cooperation Development

Russia and China support the development of a comprehensive document on the development of strategic cooperation between the countries in the field of nuclear energy, according to the protocol of the Russia-China intergovernmental energy cooperation commission.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia and China are working on a comprehensive document on the development of the bilateral strategic cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, the protocol of the Russia-China intergovernmental energy cooperation commission said.

"The parties support the authorized organizations in the development of a comprehensive document on the development of strategic cooperation between Russia and China in the field of nuclear energy," the protocol obtained by RIA Novosti said.

The countries have joint energy projects, such as the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), and are working on expanding cooperation to this end. The NPP, considered to be the safest in the world by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), was constructed with the help of Russian nuclear power equipment and service export monopoly Atomstroyexport.

The previous Russia-China intergovernmental energy cooperation commission was held in the Chinese capital of Beijing in November. Then, the sides agreed to promote the agreements on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, as well as to expand comprehensive cooperation in the field of nuclear energy,
