WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA ASI)… announced the successful operational testing of a detect-and-avoid system including GA-ASI's Due Regard Radar aboard a CBP Guardian UAS, a maritime variant of GA-ASI's Predator B," the release stated.

The detect-and-avoid system also includes Honeywell's Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System and Sensor Tracker, the release noted.

The successful completion of the anti-collision radar system operational testing by CBP "is a huge milestone" for the detect-and-avoid system as it "represents the first integration and evaluation" of the radar on an operational drone, GA-ASI Aircraft Systems President David Alexander said in the release.

CBP operates nine Predator B and Guardian drones and is the first customer to employ General Atomics’ system in an operational environment.

The successful operational test will allow further integration of the drone into civilian airspace, General Atomics added.
