Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his US counterpart John Kerry discussed Russia's proposals on joint operations against groups violating ceasefire regime in Syria.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Lavrov and Kerry discussed the situation in Syria in a phone call, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

"Lavrov again focused on the need to overlap as soon as possible the border of this country [Syria] with Turkey, from where the infiltration of militants is going on; as well as to fulfill the Washington’s promise concerning disassociation of Syrian opposition units linked to the United States from al-Nusra [Front] terrorists, which are excluded from the ceasefire," the statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Heads of the foreign services continued the discussion of the situation in Syria, as well as Russia's proposals about joint operations against terrorist groups and other illegal armed groups violating the ceasefire regime in Syria," the statement said.

The ceasefire in the war-torn country worked out by Russia and the United States took effect on February 27. The cessation of hostilities does not apply to terrorist organizations, such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

Sergei Lavrov and Kerry greed to intensify their efforts to implement the decisions of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) and the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
