Nobel Laureates Call for Relief of Sanctions Against North Korea
MOSCOW (Sputnik) North Korea claims it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb in January and fired a ballistic missile a month later. It is prohibited from having nuclear and ballistic missile technologies by the UN.

"Considering that the actions of the DPRK constitute a grave threat to international peace and security in the region and beyond, the EU decided to further expand its restrictive measures targeting the DPRK's nuclear, weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programmes," the EU Council said.

The new sanctions ban North Korea from exporting petroleum products and luxury goods and importing additional materials and equipment it could use for military purposes.

Further measures were introduced to curb the flow of funds to the reclusive state and stop EU nationals and firms from investing in mining, refining and chemical industries in the country.

Planes operated by North Korean carriers are not allowed to land in or fly over EU territories. The regulation also prohibits port calls by ships owned or crewed by North Korea.
