US-Led Coalition Airstrikes Hit 26 Daesh Rocket Rails in Mosul
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led anti-Daesh coalition carried out five airstrikes on Wednesday near the Iraqi city of Mosul amid a growing effort to liberate the city from the terror group, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.

"Near Mosul, five strikes struck three separate Daesh tactical units, five Daesh headquarters, an Daesh media center, and an Daesh communication headquarters and destroyed two Daesh vehicles, an Daesh weapons cache, and an Daesh supply cache," CENTCOM stated on Thursday.

Mosul, which serves as a Daesh stronghold, has been held by the terrorist group since 2014. However, coalition leaders have been reluctant to indicate time-frame for the city’s liberation.

In total, the coalition conducted 24 airstrikes in and around nine Iraqi cities, including Fallujah and Sinjar. The allied forces hit tactical units, fighting position, tunnels and bunkers, among other infrastructure targets, the release said.

Meanwhile in Syria, five coalition airstrikes in the cities of Raqqa, Shaddadi, Ayn Isa and Palmyra destroyed Daesh tactical units and fighting positions, the Central Command noted.

The US-led coalition of over 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes in Syria and Iraq against the Daesh terrorist group, since summer 2014. Over the past year, the coalition has reclaimed a number of cities around Mosul in a bid to choke off outside support to Daesh, outlawed in the United States and Russia.
