Moscow-Cairo Opposition Expects Next Intra-Syria Talks to Start Mid-June
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Syrian opposition's Moscow platform delegation at the Geneva peace talks has proposed to appoint five vice presidents for the the country's future transitional government, an opposition source told Sputnik Thursday.

The latest round of intra-Syrian talks took place in Geneva on April 13-27. An opposition group proposed the idea of appointing several vice-presidents, deputies for Syrian President Bashar Assad, and delegating his full powers to them. The arrangement, which enables the formation of a transitional governing body, allegedly received a positive response from de Mistura.

"A discussion is taking place with de Mistura regarding the form of the transitional body. Our proposal was that we suggest a transitional body so that there are five vice presidents," the source said.

The source noted that the proposition implied the five vice presidents to solely form the transitional body that will have full authority separated among its members, stressing that no candidates have been considered for the positions.

"This is the only way out of the situation, as it can more or less finally satisfy both sides. A compromise must be reached, so I think that they will agree on this," the source added.

The latest round of intra-Syrian talks took place in Geneva on April 13-27. The Riyadh-formed High Negotiations Committee walked out of the talks citing the continuous fighting in Syria and the lack of progress on humanitarian issues.
