MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow is ready to cooperate with Washington in the fight against international terrorism, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik.
"Of course, we are ready to cooperate with all sides to reach the common aim – combating terrorism," Bogdanov said, when asked whether Russia was ready to cooperate with the United States.
According to the official, the Russian side has called on Washington to warn their allies among the Syrian opposition that they should distance themselves from the Nusra Front extremist group.
"We strike Nusra Front and do not touch the rest," Bogdanov said.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27, but it does not apply to terrorist organizations active in the country, such as the IS and Nusra Front, both outlawed in Russia.
