A new train featuring an interactive exhibition dedicated to the works of William Shakespeare now plies the Filyovskaya Line of the Moscow Metro.

This unorthodox combination of public transit and interactive exhibition presents the playwright’s works through both conventional means and more contemporary forms of interpretation.

"The exterior of the train's carriages features pictures of people dressed as characters from the Age of Shakespeare and experiencing various emotions. The feelings of Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo and Juliette are conveyed via the use of pictograms and various emoji… The train's interior is decorated with fragments of Shakespeare’s famous works combined with symbols and signs, allowing the readers to transform into characters of his plays," a statement posted on Moscow Metro's official website says.

The carriages of the train are also fitted with Internet access points that allow passengers to learn more about Shakespeare, download a Shakespeare-themed game app and take part in a variety of contests.

The train was launched through a joint effort by the Moscow Metro and the British Council dedicated to the UK-Russia Year of Language and Literature 2016, and also serving as a tribute to the legendary playwright on the 400th anniversary of his death.
