Belgium's Nationwide Anti-Austerity Protest: Thousands Clash With Police
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Belgian police have deployed tear gas and water cannons as thousands of anti-austerity protesters have taken to the streets of Brussels, local media reported.

According to the Belga news agency, the demonstration was peaceful at first but some protesters started throwing stones, bottles and flares. As many as 60,000 people are reportedly taking part in the protest.

Two police officers were injured, according to the RTBF television channel.

"We want a policy that makes sense and prospects for the population, or this is not the case today. It saves billions of euros at the expense of social justice," Marie-Helene Ska, the head of the CSC trade union taking part in the protests, told RTBF.

The unions also protested against tax evasion and free market policies.
