The United States will remove all bans for selling weapons to Vietnam, US President Barack Obama said Monday.

HANOI (Sputnik) — The president made the announcement during a joint press conference with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi.

"I can also announce that the United States is fully lifting the ban on the sale of military equipment to Vietnam that has been in place for some 50 years," Obama said.

The US president is on a three-day visit to Vietnam, during which visit Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, before leaving on May 25 for an economic summit in Japan, and then will visit Hiroshima.
