Pakistan Slams US Anti-Taliban Drone Strike as 'Sovereignty Violation'
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US officials and the Pentagon said a drone strike targeting Mullah Mansour’s vehicle killed the Taliban leader near the remote southwestern Pakistani town of Ahmwad Wal along the Afghan border on Saturday.

"According to the information gathered so far, a person named Wali Muhammad S/o Shah Muhammad carrying a Pakistani passport and an I.D. Card, resident of Qilla Abdullah, entered Pakistan from Taftan border on 21st May. He was traveling on a vehicle hired from a transport company in Taftan. This vehicle was found destroyed at Kochaki along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border," the statement read.

According to the statement, Washington has not informed Islamabad on the strike in advance.

Mansour succeeded longtime Taliban leader Mullah Omar after his death in 2013 was confirmed in mid-2015.

Formed in the 1990s, the Taliban seeks to enforce Sharia law in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan. The group is known for numerous terrorist attacks against authorities and civilians in both countries.
