Fourth US-Cuba Bilateral Commission Meeting Set for September
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It will take time to normalize the relations between the United States and Cuba, Josefina Vidal, the head of the US department of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, said.

"It will take time to normalize relations with the US," Vidal said Friday, as quoted by the CiberCuba portal, adding that Havana and Washington were both working towards this goal.

The diplomat stressed that the economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba remained in place.

"There have been positive steps, and Cuba is not on the list of countries sponsors of terrorism… technical agreements have been signed and we started the way to the normalization of relations and there should be no illusions, it will take time for the relations of civility to exist one day and for bilateral ties to improve," Vidal added.

In December 2014, President Barack Obama announced the United States would begin to normalize relations with Cuba after more than 50 years of non-engagement and hostilities. While the two countries reopened embassies in their respective capitals in July 2015, the congressionally-mandated US trade embargo continues to remain in effect.
