Russia and the ASEAN member states backed an idea to accept a code of conduct in the South China Sea.

SOCHI (Sputnik) — Russia and the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) declared their support in accepting a strategy for conduct in the South China Sea, according to the ASEAN Summit declaration released on Friday.

"Support the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and early conclusion of an effective Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC) on the basis of consensus," the document reads.
